Hands-on learning through wood
Workshops, course modules and guest teaching
I work with traditional woodworking where the material and the hand are at the centre.
Workshops can be adapted for art, design, craft and other programmes where material knowledge and hands-on making are relevant.
Guest teacher
I can come to your school and run a workshop or a full teaching day.
Examples of content:
- Carving
- Fresh wood
- Axe work
- Traditional hand tools
- Material knowledge
- Form and function
- Wood as an artistic material
Course modules
Do you need to complement an existing programme with hands-on woodworking?
I can put together a course module that fits your goals and timeframe.
It can be a half day, a full day or a longer course.
Artistic work
Wood does not only have to be used to make functional objects.
I also work on artistic projects and collaborate with artists on wood-based works.
It can involve developing an idea, working the material or making parts of a piece.
For programmes that want to go further
I am particularly interested in sessions where participants get to explore:
- Material
- What happens when we let the properties of the wood lead the way?
- Technique
- What can we do with simple tools?
- Form
- How does a form emerge from the limitations of the material?
- Process
- What happens when we work slowly and directly with the material?
